MUI MUI RESTAURANT - MONTREAL

A gourmet stopover with Asian influences!

The term "influence" really comes into its own here. "Mui Mui" means "little sister" in Mandarin, suggesting Chinese inspiration. However, the flavors of the place are more reminiscent of Vietnam, without forgetting a certain modernity where audacious blends are king. On the menu: a selection of convivial dishes to share and a three-part tasting menu, including nine dishes from the classic menu, but in reduced portions. It's a wonderful introduction to the world of Mui Mui, for the modest sum of $65 per guest.

Nestled in Parc Extension, at the gateway to Villeray, Mui Mui is in keeping with the dynamic revitalization of these neighborhoods in recent years. The interior is uncluttered, but exudes a warm atmosphere. Service is unfailingly courteous. We dined here twice this year, and each experience was a pure delight.

The menu is concise, but varied enough to satisfy all tastes. Vegetarians will also find something to their liking, with a fine range of vegetable-based dishes. We opted for the tasting menu. The beet and mint salad was a surprise from the start: who would have thought that mint leaves could be so seductive? The semi-cooked yellowfin tuna was to die for, but the real treasure was the Vietnamese-style beef salad. Served warm, it was the perfect blend of freshness and deliciousness. It's a must at Mui Mui!

During the second and third courses, we sampled their "dumplings" - which are more like ravioli - with squash, and a mix of beet and duck confit. Although the Asian imprint isn't overt, who cares? It's a real treat. Also not to be missed: an invigorating bean salad and the crispy, tasty, sticky ribs. A must-try!

The magic of Mui Mui lies in its uniqueness: the dishes seem to be the fruit of the chef's boundless imagination rather than of a specific culinary tradition. Each dish reveals a subtle Asian influence, but above all, an authentic, fresh taste.
