BOXERMANS RESTAURANT - MONTREAL
More than a neighborhood restaurant!
There is nothing more pleasant than crossing the threshold of a small, calming neighborhood restaurant. As soon as we open the door, the vibrant ambiance envelops us and draws us inside, enveloping us in revelatory pleasure. The welcome was quick and we quickly sat down at the bar of this small establishment, which despite its size, exudes an undeniable pleasantness. The atmosphere oscillates between intimacy and effervescence. The place is presented as a small restaurant with a high ceiling, with a bar that extends along a good part of the space and ends with a kitchen open to the restaurant. It's lively, without being oppressive.
The menu offers a simple choice of less than ten dishes to share, complemented by oysters and sourdough bread with smoked butter, which you absolutely must try. The restricted selection is in no way a disadvantage. It is varied and changes frequently, which allows you to come back a few weeks later and discover new dishes.
We opted for the zucchini and anchovy tart which was refreshing and slightly salty. A true delight. The eggplant with mole and chicharrón sauce was surprising. The favorite was the beef tartare with broccolini and kohlrabi, a wonderful blend of flavors - for lovers of spicy tartares. We finished with a delicious and comforting pork loin, an almost autumnal dish. Two desserts are offered. We couldn't resist and tasted both: a passion fruit cheesecake and Quebec strawberries with white chocolate. Both pleasantly surprised us, despite the fact that this small bistro doesn't have a dedicated pastry chef.
The wine selection is rather surprising for such a small restaurant. Discovery predominates rather than classic vintages, but the eclectic selection surprises on each visit. The selection by the glass is large enough to easily find a perfect pairing, no matter what dishes you choose.
The service is attentive and pleasant. It's hard to find a fault with our evening. Boxermans is a neighborhood restaurant that is worth the trip. It is surprising that it is not rewarded more on the different platforms. PS: don't forget to book.
